At least six people have been killed and more than a dozen others injured in separate shootings across the US city of Chicago since Friday evening, a report says.
The most recent fatal incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side in Chicago, a city where more than 1,100 people have been shot this year.
A total of four people were shot to death on Sunday. One person was killed on Saturday and another on Friday evening.
At least 15 were also injured in the violent incidents in the city since Friday.
A total of 762 people became victims of gun violence in Chicago in 2016, according to police.
Thousands of people have held demonstrations in Chicago this year to highlight the uptick in gun violence in the country’s third most populous city.
Statistics by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that firearms kill more than 33,000 people in the US every year, a number that includes accidental discharges, murders and suicides.
It is estimated that there are between 270 million and 300 million guns in the US, about one per person, according to the New York Daily News.
