US President Donald Trump has delayed his made-up “fake news” awards show as top late night TV figures race to push for winning the award.
Trump said in a tweet late Sunday that the awards would be given to the “losers” on January 17 rather than Monday.
“The Fake News Awards, those going to the most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media, will be presented to the losers on Wednesday, January 17th, rather than this coming Monday,” said the American commander in chief. “The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!”
The announcement was made after The Daily Show with Trevor Noah released an ad in the New York Times pushing itself to be given an award.

The ad refers to Breitbart News, a media outlet associated with the alt-right movement, calling the show a “political propaganda disguised as entertainment.”
The Late Show host Stephen Colbert is also vying for the award via a billboard ad in New York’s Times Square.

Live! host Jimmy Kimmel was another celebrity TV personality to make fun of the competition.
“The ‘Stupid People’s Choice Awards’ is what they’re calling it,” he said. “This is a real dilemma for the president, because on the one hand, he loves awards and trophies, but will he be physically able to give a trophy to someone other than himself? I don’t think so.”
Trump had earlier announced that he would launch the show to take on dishonesty in the US media.
“I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o’clock,” he wrote. “Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!”
Since the 2016 campaign, Trump has repeatedly used the term "fake news" largely for any coverage criticizing him or his allies.
