In a surprising political development, some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Auga, Akunu, Ikakumo, and Ikare Akoko communities of Ondo State have switched allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This mass defection, which occurred yesterday, boosted the PDP's chances in the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16, 2024.
The PDP gubernatorial candidate, Agboola Ajayi, is now seen as having a stronger position, with many viewing this shift as a game-changer for his campaign.
A chieftain of party and close associate of Agboola Ajayi, Hon. Prince Feyisayo Ayodele was said to have actively involved, working alongside Ajayi to ensure that residents of Akoko North East fully embrace the PDP.
Ajayi and other senior members of the party, warmly welcomed the defectors during a well-attended event at the community square and the PDP secretariat.
The event was filled with celebrations as the new members were embraced by the party.
The Former APC members cited their dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership and policies as the primary reasons for their defection.
They expressed hope in the PDP’s vision for Ondo State, particularly in Agboola Ajayi’s leadership, which they believe is better aligned with the people's needs.
Several prominent political groups, including Hon. Shapiro (former Councilor of Ilepa Ward 2), the Bolorunduro group, and the Aanuoluwapo group, also defected through the FEFA Group, led by Hon. Prince Feyisayo Ayodele.
Tons of APC members were reported to have moved to the PDP under the FEFA Group.
In his speech, Ajayi welcomed the new members, promising that they would have equal opportunities in his administration, assuring that no effort would be spared in achieving better governance.
In addition, campaign vehicles donated by Hon. Folusho Adefemi (FMA) were commissioned by His Excellency Agboola Ajayi to aid in campaign efforts for the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16th.
