Ambassador Dr. Godknows Igali, the newly elected National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has expressed profound grief over the passing of Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama. He described Utuama's death as a significant loss not only for the Niger Delta but for Nigeria as a whole.
In a message shared with the Daily Independent Newspaper, Ambassador Igali praised Prof. Utuama’s immense contributions to Nigeria’s legal and public service spheres. He remarked:
“Prof. Amos Utuama was a man whose unwavering dedication to justice, governance, and the Niger Delta region was exemplary. On behalf of PANDEF and the entire Niger Delta community, I mourn the loss of a leader who was truly exceptional.”
Amb. Igali highlighted Prof. Utuama's towering intellectual contributions to jurisprudence in Nigeria, noting that his legal expertise was both groundbreaking and transformative. He added that Utuama’s deep understanding of complex legal issues made him a guiding light for lawyers, students, and policymakers alike.
“Prof. Utuama’s respect for the rule of law and his steadfast commitment to justice were central to his life’s work. His legal scholarship not only advanced the frontiers of law but also upheld the integrity of Nigeria’s judicial system,” Igali emphasized.
Beyond his academic prowess, Prof. Utuama was also a seasoned public servant who held significant roles, including Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Delta State, and later served as Deputy Governor. Igali noted that Utuama’s legacy in public service was marked by his commitment to equity, public welfare, and societal progress.
