Speaking with The Daily Crucible, Alowonle alleged that his signature was forged on a resignation letter that did not originate from him. He explained that he had only submitted a request for a four-month leave of absence to pursue his political ambition during the last local government elections in Ogun State.
According to him, the claim that he resigned was based on a falsified document.
He maintained that he was legitimately elected, served his first term honorably, and secured a second-term mandate through overwhelming support.
Dissatisfied with the situation, Alowonle has taken the matter to the National Industrial Court in Ibadan, seeking legal redress.
He accused his former personal assistant, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, also known as Danku, of unlawfully taking over his position and imposing himself as chairman.
The lawsuit names several respondents, including Sokoya, the Incorporated Trustees of AMORAN, the Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Governor of Ogun State, and the Commissioner for Transport.
Alowonle recounted that the leadership tussle began after he formally requested a leave of absence from August 5 to December 4, 2024, to contest the Sagamu Local Government chairmanship.
He claimed that during this period, Sokoya exploited the opportunity to install himself as chairman in an illegal manner.
In his suit, Alowonle is seeking a court declaration that Sokoya was not the rightful person to assume the acting chairman position, as he was only appointed as a personal assistant.
He is also requesting the court to nullify Sokoya’s swearing-in and issue an order restraining him from presenting himself as AMORAN’s chairman.
As of now, the National Industrial Court has not set a date for the hearing of the case.
