A delegation from the Federal Government visited Udu Local Government Area in Delta State on March 19, 2025, for an official inspection of the Federal Medical Center (FMC) project site in Ovwian Community.
This marks a crucial step toward establishing a healthcare facility aimed at serving Ovwian, Udu LGA, and the broader Delta Central Senatorial District.
During the visit, the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, High Chief (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, reaffirmed the community's commitment to supporting the project.
He assured the delegation that Udu remains a peaceful and cooperative environment, emphasizing that security in the area is well-maintained. Addressing concerns about land ownership, Oyibode clarified that the land designated for the project is government-controlled and will be used for the benefit of the people.
Oyibode highlighted the strategic location of Ovwian, noting its accessibility to both inland and waterfront areas, making it an ideal site for the medical center.
He also confirmed that the FMC will initially operate from Otor-Udu General Hospital, which already has medical equipment, before relocating to its permanent site in Ovwian upon completion.
Hon. Reverend Ejiroghene Francis Waive, the Member Representing Udu, Ughelli South, and North Constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed his excitement over the project’s realization.
He credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making the FMC a reality and emphasized the center's importance in serving one of Delta State’s most densely populated regions.
Community leaders also voiced their support for the initiative. Mr. Dele Okuku, President of Ovwian Community, described the project as a major achievement for both Ovwian and Delta State.
He called for collaboration between contractors and the host community, fair compensation for displaced landowners, and employment opportunities for local workers.
Several dignitaries, including High Chief Sam Odibo, Otota of Udu Kingdom, and Rt. Hon. Apunu Henry, Leader of the Udu Legislative Arm, attended the event.
The project is expected to significantly improve healthcare access and enhance the well-being of residents in Udu and surrounding areas.
