Ondo Speaker, BORBDA MD, PDP hails Leke Adegbite Re-election as NUJ Chairman

The re-election of Prince Leke Adegbite as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has continued to attract accolades from key stakeholders, political leaders, and institutions across the state.

The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Olamide Oladiji, led the chorus of congratulatory messages, describing Adegbite as a “special breed” with a deep commitment to the journalism profession. 

In a personally signed statement issued in Akure, Oladiji said, “Your re-election is well-deserved, and I am confident that your wealth of experience will continue to benefit the Union.”

He further noted that the overwhelming support received at the polls reflects Adegbite’s selfless service and dedication, wishing him success in his continued leadership.

Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State expressed joy over the outcome of the election, commending Adegbite’s achievements in his first term and expressing optimism about the path ahead. 

The party, in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, urged the newly elected executive to remain focused on upholding journalistic integrity.

While celebrating the victory, the party also raised concerns over the growing influence of media quacks. 

“We implore the NUJ Chairman to use his good office to restore professionalism by flushing out untrained elements masquerading as journalists,” the statement read. 

The PDP pledged to continue partnering with the Union to strengthen democracy through credible journalism.

Also adding his voice to the chorus of congratulations was the Managing Director of Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), Dr. Femi Adekanmbi, who praised the newly elected NUJ executives, particularly Prince Adegbite, for earning the trust of media professionals in the state.

In his statement, Dr. Adekanmbi emphasized the need for unity within the Council and urged the new leadership to extend hands of fellowship to all members, including those who contested against them. He expressed confidence in their ability to advance journalism in the state and pledged BORBDA’s support for initiatives that promote the welfare of media practitioners.

As Prince Leke Adegbite begins his second term, expectations are high across various quarters for a more impactful and united NUJ in Ondo State.
