Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has extended warm greetings to Muslims across Nigeria as they celebrate Eid-al-Adha, calling on the faithful to reflect the spirit of the festival through acts of sacrifice, compassion, and devotion to God.
In a statement released by his media office on Thursday, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 general election emphasized the significance of the Islamic celebration, which he described as a period that encourages kindness, peace, and unwavering faith.
“The essence of Eid-al-Adha, rooted in the traditions of Prophet Ibrahim and upheld by Prophet Muhammad, calls us to reflect kindness and peace in our lives,” Atiku said.
He urged Muslims to use the festive season to pray for divine intervention in Nigeria’s affairs, stressing the importance of seeking God’s mercy for the country.
Atiku also called on the Muslim community to remember the less privileged, noting that generosity and charity are fundamental to Islamic teachings and should be practiced not only during Eid but all year round.
The former Vice President further appealed to leaders at every level to demonstrate compassion and selflessness in the discharge of their responsibilities, drawing inspiration from the values symbolized by the festival.
“Leadership demands forbearance and commitment to the greater good. I appeal to those in authority to show compassion and prioritize the welfare of the people, in line with God’s command,” he said.
He concluded by encouraging Nigerians to pray for peace and unity, urging families and communities to promote harmony during the sacred celebration.
Eid-al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
