AAUA: Professor of Counselling Psychology, Akomolafe, to present 44th inaugural lecture

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, has concluded plans for its 44th Inaugural Lecture, which will be delivered by Professor Jude Akomolafe, a renowned expert in Counselling Psychology. The lecture is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

The event, themed “Did You Complete What You Started? The Tripartite Roles of Commitment, Predictors and Therapeutic Interventions,” will take place at the University Multipurpose Hall. 

Guests are expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m. for a prompt 2:00 p.m. start. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, will serve as chairman of the occasion, according to a statement from the Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adebisi Daramola.

Professor Akomolafe’s academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Guidance and Counselling in 1997 from the former Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti, now Ekiti State University. 

He earned a Master’s degree in the same field from AAUA in 2004 and completed his Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology at the University of Ibadan in 2009.

He joined AAUA as a Graduate Assistant in 1998 in the Department of Guidance and Counselling and rose steadily through the ranks to become a professor in 2019.

Throughout his career, he has served the university in over 70 capacities, including Head of Department, Acting Director and Associate Director of the Institute of Education, Chairman of the Teaching Practice Committee, and Chairman of the Senate Business Committee.

A prolific scholar, Professor Akomolafe has contributed to two books and authored over 50 articles in academic journals. 

He has mentored more than 1,000 students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including 22 master’s and six Ph.D. candidates. 

He also serves as an external examiner for institutions such as Obafemi Awolowo University, Ekiti State University, University of Ibadan, and University of the Free State in South Africa, and is a facilitator and project supervisor for the National Open University.

His academic influence extends beyond Nigeria, having presented research papers at more than 40 conferences both locally and internationally, including in Kenya, South Africa, Eswatini, Italy, and Canada.

Professor Akomolafe is a member of several professional bodies, including the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria, International Society for Policy Research and Evaluation, Positive Psychology Association of Nigeria, Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Africa, and the Association of Teachers in Tertiary Institutions of Nigeria.
