Aiyedatiwa swears in new Commissioners, reaffirms commitment to good governance

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Monday inaugurated a fresh batch of Commissioners, restating his administration's dedication to transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at The Dome, Akure, with top government functionaries, political stakeholders, and traditional rulers in attendance.

In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the event as a major step in his administration’s mission to build a more prosperous Ondo State. He urged the new Commissioners to begin work immediately, stressing that residents have high expectations and will settle for nothing less than excellence.

“The people of Ondo State expect nothing but the best from us, having entrusted us with an overwhelming mandate. We must now deliver on our campaign promises,” he said.

The Governor explained that the delay in announcing the appointments was intentional, noting that his administration favours a deliberate and steady approach to governance.

“In our first 100 days, we have demonstrated that slow and steady wins the race. Our focus has been on consistency and meaningful progress,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He congratulated the appointees, praising their qualifications and commitment to public service, and urged them to serve with integrity, patriotism, and respect for due process.

He also warned their families and associates against placing unnecessary demands on them, emphasizing the need for Commissioners to concentrate on their official responsibilities.

Governor Aiyedatiwa directed the new officials to align their duties with his administration’s 7-point development agenda, codenamed OUR EASE, which emphasizes economic growth, food security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, youth empowerment, and social welfare.

The Governor highlighted some achievements of his administration, including infrastructure projects, welfare programmes for the elderly and vulnerable, and strategic partnerships with investors to boost the state’s economy.

On security, Aiyedatiwa reiterated his governmuent’s zero tolerance for criminality. He referenced the recent approval of a bill imposing stiffer penalties — including the death sentence — on kidnappers and abductors.

He also reassured those who are yet to be appointed that more opportunities would be available to serve the state in due course.

Earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, described the appointment of the new Commissioners as a move toward inclusive and people-centred governance. He lauded the Governor’s leadership and noted that the appointees were selected based on merit, competence, and loyalty to the administration’s goals.

Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in Commissioners, Mr. Omoyofunmi Segun expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity and pledged that they would serve with diligence and dedication.

Present at the ceremony were Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, the Governor’s wife Mrs. Esther Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, Speaker of the House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Chief Judge Justice Olusegun Odusola, Chief of Staff Prince Segun Omajuwa, Head of Service Mr. Bayo Philip, APC State Chairman Engr. Ade Adetimehin, federal and former lawmakers, traditional rulers, local government and LCDA chairmen, labour leaders, and other dignitaries.
