Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, was among top dignitaries who accompanied President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, to mourn the passing of the Awùjalẹ̀ and Paramount Ruler of Ijẹbu Kingdom, Ọba Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna.
The condolence delegation, led by President Tinubu, was received by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, at the palace of the late monarch. The visit brought together prominent figures from across the country to honour the life and legacy of the revered royal father.
Ọba Adetọna, who ascended the throne in 1960 and ruled for more than sixty years, was celebrated for his steadfast leadership, deep cultural influence, and contributions to national development. Many have hailed him as a beacon of wisdom, integrity, and traditional excellence.
Governor Aiyedatiwa joined several other governors and sympathisers at Ijebu Ode, where he expressed his condolences to Governor Abiodun and the royal family. Prior to the Fidau prayer, the visiting leaders held a brief meeting at Governor Abiodun’s residence.
A special Fidau prayer was later held at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium in honour of the departed monarch. The solemn occasion drew Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, political leaders, and other mourners who gathered to offer prayers for the peaceful repose of the late king.
Among other governors present at the event were Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, and Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, all of whom paid their respects and stood in solidarity with the people of Ogun State.
Ọba Sikiru Adetọna passed away at the age of 91, leaving behind a remarkable legacy as one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning monarchs.
