The Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), owned by the Ondo State Government, has announced that it will hold its long-awaited 12th–23rd combined convocation ceremonies between Monday, October 20 and Sunday, October 26, 2025.
The event, which will mark the first convocation in 12 years after the last was held in 2013, is expected to showcase the academic accomplishments of graduates from the 2013/2014 to the 2023/2024 sessions.
A statement signed by the Polytechnic’s Public Relations and Protocol Officer, Mr. Olumide Olugosi, said the ceremonies reflect a new era of renewal and progress for the institution with the full backing of the Ondo State Government.
The week-long activities will feature a press conference, novelty football match, awards night, convocation lecture, alumni gala, commissioning of projects, and the formal presentation of National and Higher National Diploma certificates to deserving graduates.
Other highlights include the conferment of prizes on outstanding students, recognition of distinguished personalities with fellowships and honours, as well as religious observances such as a Juma’at service and a thanksgiving service.
The Visitor to the Polytechnic and Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will attend the ceremonies alongside dignitaries, alumni, industry leaders, and members of the academic community.
The convocation lecture will be delivered by the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Biyi Poroye.
Speaking ahead of the ceremonies, the Acting Rector, Mr. Olorunwa Simon Adegun, described the convocation as a defining moment for the graduates and an opportunity for the Polytechnic to reaffirm its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and national relevance.
“The Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic invites all stakeholders, alumni, parents, and the general public to join in this landmark celebration of knowledge and accomplishment,” the statement added.
